The e-learning programme jointly conducted by Indian Institute of Technology-Mumbai, HRD Ministry and Kerala-based Amrita University has received tremendous response and over 3,500 college teachers from different parts of the country have benefited from it.
The 10-day online Basic Electronics workshop, which concluded yesterday, was conducted with the e-learning platform, A-VIEW developed by Amrita University, run by Mata Amritanandamayi Devi.
The programme was conceived and designed to help teachers improve their knowledge as well as teaching skills through the live classroom experience.
The programme was meant to address the most pressing issue of higher education in India today, the shortage of highly qualified teachers, especially in rural areas, Amrita University said in a release.
IIT Bombay Professor Deepak Phatak, who is also the mastermind behind the programme, said it was conducted in 38 centres including rural or semi-urban areas like Shirpur and Ichalkaranji in Maharashtra and Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh.
The initiative was funded by National Mission on Education (NME-ICT), Ministry of HRD.
A-VIEW platform was also used for 'Ask a Question' programme, the brainchild of IIT Bombay Professor Kannan M Moudgalya.
In this pilot programme, students and experts get connected once a week, online using A-VIEW. Any college student in India can ask questions on electronics, which are answered online by senior faculty from IIT Bombay.
IIT Bombay has trained around 3,850 teachers in four workshops since June 2010, using regular internet connectivity.
