The principal of the Tanda medical college today clarified that the Friday function was held to celebrate the allotment of additional 24 post graduate seats in various disciplines.

"The said function was of the college students (both MBBS and nursing) along with the staff to celebrate the landmark achievement of the institution viz admission to and starting of additional 24 postgraduate seats in 15 disciplines this month," Dr Anil said.

The state health minister was present as the chief guest from 2.30 PM to 3.45 PM in the college auditorium on that day, he said.

"It was in no way a political function. All the staff and students were informed about the same and requested to attend. Neither the hospital work suffer nor any patients were turned back," he said.

Yesterday, former Congress minister and local MLA G S Bali had alleged that the principal had suspended classes and directed all staff and students to be present for the political function.

"The principal of Tanda Medical College in Kangra district issued an official letter ordering the staff and the students to attend a political function in the college," Bali had claimed.
