The Nair Service Society (NSS), one of the largest corporate school managements in the State, has welcomed the State government decision to do away with discrepancy in the fee structure in unaided schools run by minority and majority community managements.
In a press note issued at Perunna on Wednesday, NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair said the organisation had been raising this demand for decades with successive governments. While the schools managed by the majority communities were bound by strict government stipulations with regard to fee structure, those managed by the minority communities had a free hand.
The NSS was of the opinion that while the minorities were eligible for legitimate consideration as provided by the Constitution with regard to sanctioning of schools, both the minority and the majority community managements faced the same reality in the functioning of their institutions and should have a level playing field. The restrictions on the fee structure had affected the viability of the unaided schools run by the majority community managements, he said.
The State government's decision would not affect the future of unaided schools managed by minority managements, and would ensure continued functioning of unaided schools run by the majority managements, he said.
