Students from Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools who have appeared for the internal exams this year can apply for offline admissions after the online process gets over on August 10. However, the admissions given will be provisional in nature. While the state government is yet to take a decision on the process of regularising the provisional admissions at a later stage, the CBSE claims that there will not be any external exams for these students.
CBSE chairperson Vineet Joshi met the principal secretary of the school education department, Sumit Mullick, on Tuesday to find a solution for students seeking admission to the state’s junior colleges. The education department had made it clear from the beginning that students who have taken the internal exams will not be allowed in the merit-based online admissions. A notification will be issued within three days to the deputy directors’ offices.
Joshi said, “The state government was very forthcoming and the meeting was positive. They are ready to allow our students in the offline admissions. Our board appreciates the government’s initiative. Our students will not be asked to give another exam in future.” He added that the state department was ready to extend the dates of application in regions where the deadlines were over. However, Joshi refused to comment on the provisional admissions.
A senior official from the education department said, “We told them that students who have given the internal exams would have to apply offline after the online process is over. We have decided to give them provisional admissions and are looking into the possibility of regularising them later.” The state may either ask the students to appear for an external exam (conducted by the CBSE) at a later stage to make such admissions regular or may consider both the school-based test and board exams on a par. “The state will decide on considering the two exams on a par. The government will soon arrive at a decision to regularise these admissions,” said the official.
