Puducherry: The Puducherry government would soon come out with an action plan to introduce yoga for schoolchildren on the lines of the scheme in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister V Vaithilingam said here today.
Inaugurating a six-day long training programme on yoga for human excellence for physical education teachers in government schools, he said he had copies of action plans and orders of the Tamil nadu government, provided by Coimbatore based World Community Service Centre, based on which the scheme would be introduced in the union territory.
The training programme has been organised by the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan project of the Directorate of School Education, in collaboration with the WCSC.
He said physical education teachers trained in the first phase would act as resource persons to train children on yoga for human excellence in different modes in the next phase.
Yoga and disciplined life is a must, he said.
Director of School Education Dr S Sundaravadivelou who spoke, said the directorate had earmarked Rs 61 lakh for various training programmes for physical education. Around
5000 school teachers would be trained in different aspects of promoting physical and mental health of children.
The training for physical education teachers on yoga for human excellence would be in a phased manner in different centres in Puducherry, an official of Directorate of Education told.
