Presenting this year's budget in the assembly, Finance Minister A K Walia said students of class-IX and X are paid Rs 300 each while their counterparts in class XI and XII are paid Rs 350 each at present.
The government would increase the cash grants to Rs 600 for students of class IX and X and Rs 800 at class XI and XII from July this year, he said, adding the government has allocated 10.32 per cent of the total plan for education.
Similarly, the government has proposed to increase the amount of scholarship and contingency grant for post-graduate students of Delhi College of Engineering from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000 and scholarship for Ph.D in engineering from Rs 7,000 to Rs 12,250 from this academic session.
The scholarship for PG students of Delhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Research has also been proposed to enhance from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000 from this academic session, Walia said.
The government has also proposed to waive non-tuition fee for physically handicapped and orphans at the institutes licensed by the social welfare department.
