Higher secondary Ashram schools to have upgraded labs

Maharashtra Government will upgrade laboratory facilities for higher secondary tribal students studying in Ashram schools.

Minister of State for Tribal Development Rajendra Gavit lamented there was not a single well-equipped laboratory for the tribal students in these schools.

There are 65 to 70 Ashram schools (residential schools especially run in the tribal areas of Maharashtra) for students of Standard 8th to 12th.

He said the government has also decided to revise its 1985 Government Resolution (GR) to provide apron and stethoscope to medical and engineering students.

Nearly 500 tribal students will be selected from Nagpur, Amravati, Nashik and Thane districts for training them for MPSC and UPSC exams, the Minister said.

At present 138 Ashram schools are functioning out of rented premises. The Government plans to spend Rs 650 crore to take them on ownership basis and undertake repairs in the next two to three years, Gavit added.
