Scheme to create awareness on sending kids to school launched

Karnataka government launched a novel programme, involving parents and elected representatives, across 50,000 schools in the state to generate awareness on imparting quality education and sending children to schools, among others.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa visited the Government Higher Primary School in Rajankunte, on the city outskirts and interacted with children, people and elected representatives on Right to Education and stressed the need for parents using the benefits provided by the state to educate their wards.

Yeddyurappa asked elected representatives to campaign among people about the need to admit their children to government schools.

He said government has been providing free textbooks, note books, uniform, mid-day meal scheme and bicycles to encourage parents to send their children to schools.

Yeddyurappa said he would visit a school in a 'hobli' centre every month and interact with teachers, students and parents.

He promised to establish a junior college, ITI and a stadium in Rajankunte, launched "nali-kali" another initiative by the education department to attract children to government schools where education is imparted through entertainment programmes.

Yeddyurappa also planted a sapling on this occasion.

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri said about one lakh elected representatives are taking part in today's programme.
