An all-party meeting held here to discuss issues pertaining to self-financing professional institutions failed to reach an agreement on implementing the government policy of social justice and merit while admitting students in these institutions.
"All parties demanded that these institutions follow the policy of social justice like reasonable fees and admitting 50 per cent students on merit quota," Chief Minister Minister Oommen Chandy told reporters after the meeting.
The government would take further steps after discussions with private managements of medical and engineering colleges slated for July 5-6, Chandy said.
"Managements of medical colleges under the Inter-Church Council should consider the general sentiments on the matter," he said.
Chandy also sought the co-operation of all concerned to resolve the issue.
Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan was among those participated at the meeting.
