A goof-up pertaining to the release of merit lists has left the Presidency University authority red-faced. The university's lists for admission, which was supposed to be published on Monday at 3pm, were inadvertently posted on its website for half an hour on Saturday night. The authority was clueless about how this happened, but the news spread instantly, leaving aspirants glued to the computer screens to see if their dream of studying at the premier university has been fulfilled.
The university is yet to make a statement on the issue. Registrar Pradip Sengupta declined to comment, saying he would investigate the matter, which was informed to him by "some students".
Around 9pm on Saturday, candidates got to know that the lists of all subjects, except Geology and Physics, have already been published on the university website. Insiders at the university conceded that since the finalisation of the list was still on, someone might have accidentally uploaded it.
"We immediately informed the authorities. The pages were saved for future reference," said Independents Consolidation worker Joy Saha. "We fear that students will now be blackmailed by people who would claim to ensure their names on the merit list against money. We hope students don't get duped. We have requested the authority to put up an apology on the website," an IC supporter said.
