New Delhi: Results for the first ever Combined Aptitude Test for English (CATE) conducted by Delhi University (DU) will be declared today.
"The results will be declared in the evening after its compilation. A meeting would be conducted by the English Department and then the results will be sent to the respective colleges," said Sumanyu Satpathy, HoD, English.
For the first time English Department had conducted a common entrance test for students applying for English (hons.) this year on June 17 at 12 colleges.
"Initially the colleges were reluctant to sign for a common entrance test. However, in the end 12 colleges agreed for the test," said faculty of English Department.
The colleges that agreed for the test to be conducted were Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, Hindu, Indraprastha, Kamla Nehru, Maharaja Agrasen, Ram Lal Anand (evening), Satyaati (evening), Shivaji, Shyam Lal, Swami Shradhanad, Zakir Hussain and Zakir Hussain (evening) classes.
The test was held to evaluate the aptitude of students for the course. 6,700 students had appeared for 350 seats in DU colleges.
Multiple choice questions on language skills, literary knowledge, grammar and vocabulary were asked in CATE.
Most of the colleges that signed for the test were those which are not usually preferred by the students. This will ensure that the test would drive candidates towards the course and not the college.
The response to the test was enormous as students who scored more than 90pc also appeared for the CATE
