Realistic cut-offs

The Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board (NCWEB) saw a huge number of candidates pouring in for admissions after the announcement of its first cut-off list, which was much lower compared to other regular colleges of Delhi University.

Admissions in most of the colleges started on June 27 for BA and BCom programmes. Colleges like Hansraj and Lakshmibai, which conducts classes for students of NCWEB, came out with reasonable cut-offs for BA programmes this academic year. For example, Hansraj College for general category students has kept a cutoff of 73%, whereas Lakshmibai's cutoff for the general category students is 70%.

While the hullabaloo was created due to high cut-offs for the BCom course in regular DU colleges, in NCWEB, the cut-offs for the same course is extremely low — 75% in Hansraj College, 72% in Lakshmibai College and 71% in Kalindi College for general category students. Aarti Saxena, director, NCWEB says, "Since the cut-off announced by us are not too high like in other colleges, a lot of students are coming in for admission."

Also, due to realistic cut-offs of Hansraj College, maximum number of students want to get an admission there. Saxena says, "Many students are looking forward to admissions in Hansraj but there are students who are seeking admission in other colleges too."

According to Saxena, for the BCom course, out of 200 seats in Hansraj College, 130 seats were full on the first day itself. Similar was the situation with Lakshmibai College. NCWEB will only come out with three cut-off lists. The second cut-off will be announced on July 8.

NCWEB offers special coaching to women-students and allows them to appear in university exams without attending regular classes. At present, the enrolment in undergraduate classes is more than 16,000 and in postgraduate classes it is approximately 500.
