The government is yet to reach a decision on students who took the internal exams this year, but several principals from CBSE schools believe few students will opt out of the board exams next year. In fact some plan to suggest the board exam to their students so that they don't repent in future.
P C Chhabria, principal of Delhi Public School, Nerul, said, "I plan to write a note to all parents suggesting them to allow their wards to take the board exam. Students should take as many competitive exams as possible. Though we can only suggest, in the end it will be the students' choice. Appearing for the board exam will always be a better choice and students should keep their options open." Around 93 students gave the board exam from his school and 75 appeared for the internal exam. The current Class X batch has to decide in a month.
With CBSE students being refused admissions in junior colleges in the state, principals are wary. Principal of Rajhans Vidyalaya, Deepshika Srivastava, said, "Since Maharashtra has a unique problem with junior college admissions, we are worried about making any suggestions to parents. This year, the number of students opting out of the board exam may fall."
"The response for the school-based exam in Maharashtra will definitely go down. In several city schools, around 50% students opted out of the board exam. In my school, many students who took the board exams also want to continue in the same board. But many schools now can't accommodate all their students," said a principal.
Schools also expect a clarification for the March 2012 CBSE exams.
The Council of Indian School Certificate Exam has decided to allow students who took the internal CBSE exam to their junior colleges only this year.
