Marginal fee hike in three private Medical colleges

Marginal fee hike recommended by the fee fixing committee in few private medical colleges have left them dejected.

The fee- fixation committee, headed by former high court judge N V Balasubramanian, has marginally increased the fees in 3 out of the 20 self-financing medical colleges in the state for academic year 2011-12.

By and large, the committee has maintained last year's fees, for most colleges, while providing an option for them to appeal. The revised, fee structure shows a variation of the amount ranging between Rs.1.5 lakh and Rs.2.5 lakh per annum.

Changes have been made for Karpaga Vinayaka and Tagore Medical Colleges, hiking the fees from to Rs. 2.50 lakh from last year's Rs. 2.25 lakh. There is a hike of Rs.2.5 lakh from 2.3 lakh, for Sree Mookambika Medical College.

However there is no change in the fees structure for the PSG Medical College and Adiparasakthi Medical College. They both would charge Rs.2.5 lakh, the same as last year. IRT Perundurai Medical College retains its fixed fees at Rs. 1.3 lakh. Sri Muthukumaran Medical College would charge Rs. 2.25 lakh.

The Chennai Medical College in Tiruchi has been allowed to collect Rs 2.5 lakh against Rs 2.25 lakh in 2010. Students joining the government medical colleges will continue to pay Rs 12,290 every year.

The two new colleges, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College and Hospital in Perambalur and Annapoorna Medical College and Hospital in Salem would charge a maximum of Rs. 2.25 lakh. For the rest, the fees will be Rs 2.5 lakh.
