CBSE schools to issue letters on mode of exam

There is finally some good news for CBSE students who took the board exam.

Schools in Nagpur will start issuing certificates to students verifying the mode of exam they chose in Std X. This certificate is mandatory for students (only board-based examinees) to be eligible for admission through the centralized admission process (CAP) in Nagpur. While some schools are issuing it to both school and board-based examinees, others are doing it only for the latter.

A school principal said that "students who gave school-based exam do not need it as proof anyway as they are not allowed to participate in the CAP".

Students can get the certificates at their respective schools. The certificate will be issued on the schools letterhead mentioning the student's enrolment details and the mode of exam chosen.

However, there is still one more hiccup before they can submit form through CAP. CBSE students still have not received their original marksheet, a mandatory document for applying through CAP. The clock is ticking fast for students as the deadline for CAP ends on July 2.

For CBSE, Nagpur comes under the administrative jurisdiction of their Chennai regional office. Marksheets were to be dispatched from the Chennai office to all schools under its purview, but that has not been done yet.

A CBSE school principal, said, ''As if that fight with state government was not enough, we are facing the wrath of parents over delayed marksheet. It has been over three weeks since the results came and we have no news when it might come.''

On Monday some city schools received a courier from Chennai office which had the consolidated sheet of marks scored by all students. Principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya in Ambajhari, CD Grace, said, ''The document we received is exactly similar to the one we downloaded from the net earlier. There was anticipation that the marksheet will arrive today but nothing so far. This is the first time it has been delayed so much, last year we got it in 10 days.''

Deven Dasture, director of Royal Gondwana Public school said, "We have come to know that the marksheet will come before this weekend. CBSE said the marksheets are ready and it is a matter of time before we receive and distribute the same to students. I understand the anxiety of students as the deadline for CAP is nearing fast."

On Saturday, CBSE PRO Rama Sharma had told TOI that ''marksheets must be in transit as Chennai office should have dispatched them by now''. On Monday, Sharma did not respond to calls and messages regarding the status of marksheet.

Beheroze Rabadi, parent, said, "We went today for the marksheet to school and they told us come on June 30. The CAP deadline is on July 2 and I am worried what happens if the State needs more documents and we don't have enough time for that? It is a ridiculous state of affairs with the CBSE and State. The kids are so stressed out because of the entire controversy and still their fate continues to hang in balance."

Sources in CBSE say this year the marksheet will come for both Std IX and X together, as envisaged in the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) process.
