Shubham Sharma, a student of class X from Jaipur,was selected out of 1500 entries from across the world to take part in a competition organised by Nasa; and he stood second in the competition.

The young and talented prodigy conceived a project of creating a space settlement, which will be an alternate dwelling place for humans. The colony could accommodate 11,000 people with the latest technologies and also offers space tourism in the future. The project titled 'Avatar' uses 'Aeroponics' which is the best way to grow plants in an environment devoid of natural soil, making use of the moisture in the air.

"We had a video conferencing call with APJ Abdul Kalam and shared our experiences with him. It was an honour to be in the presence of great minds such as Al Globus, Buzz Aldrin, (the second man to have landed on the moon) and Richard Garriot," he says.

Talking about future prospects, Shubham says, "It has been a fulfilling experience to be a part of NASA's competition, it does strengthen one's future prospects. I am confident that the name NASA on my CV will hold me in good stead in the future. I plan to appear for the IIT JEE exam and be an aerospace engineer . The certificates and mementos from NASA are treasures for me." After the NASA competition, Shubham has also been invited by Ohio University to make the project for them. Clearly, his international exposure has given him a much wider access to showcase his intellect and expertise.
