Education officials have received several queries from students seeking admission to junior colleges and their parents. TOI takes a look at the most frequently asked questions:
Why can’t I submit my option form?
Unless and until students have finished filling codes of at least 35 colleges, their forms will not be accepted. Students opting for various reservations like sports and culture quota, disabled quota, defense quota and others should first get their application forms approved by their school principals by submitting the required documents to the school, and then fill their option forms.
Will I get into a college of my preference?
The entire admission process is computerised and this system ensures that students get seats in colleges as per their preferences only. Colleges listed under the ‘MMR’ section (minimum 15 colleges) will be given the first preference, followed by colleges listed under the ‘zonal’ section and then the five (minimum) colleges listed under the ‘ward’ section. Students should not repeat college codes.
There aren’t enough colleges in my ward. What do I do?
It has been made compulsory for students to apply to at least 35 colleges online this year. However, in case there are fewer colleges in a particular zone/ ward than what is the minimum requirement as per the prescribed rules, the computer will prompt the applicant about this and still accept the form.
How do I avail the betterment option?
If the student is not happy with the college where his/ her name has appeared for the first time, the student should still confirm his/ her admission at that particular college by paying Rs 50 only. Once this is done, the student automatically becomes applicable for the betterment option and depending on vacant seats in other colleges, his/ her name will appear on the list of a college, which was a higher preference than the current college. Students who don’t confirm their admission with a particular college will then have to re-apply to colleges offline for a seat.
