Gayatri, 16, who will finish her class XII in 2012, aspires to study at the NID. However, without anybody to guide her on various design courses and their prospects, she is clueless about how to prepare to achieve her dream.
In a bid to help many aspirants like Gayatri make an informed choice, NID will redesign its website to make it reflect all academic activities happening under various disciplines in the institute.
Designed by a team of faculty members and students of the institute, the website will send alerts about activities in the institute on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
Apart from information related to design activities like students' academic projects, workshops, seminars and so on the new website will have a guide on how to apply for admission to NID as well.
"The current website needs to incorporate more details in terms of updates about activities on the campus. We will now decentralize the control over the website so that each department can update the activities or academic calendar or other such types of updates on its own," said faculty member at NID Rupesh Vyas, who is guiding his student Jonathan D'mello and alumnus Armeen Kapadia on the project.
The new website will also enable people to register themselves so that they get updates on specific details and activities. While the website will showcase design and research publications, it will also tell the history of the institute through an interactive timeline.
The new website will replace the old one in around two months. "Being a design institute we have to prove our design aptitude in the institute's website as well," said faculty member at NID Rupesh Vyas.
