T V Mohandas Pai, who quit Infosys Technologies recently, will open an innings in academics.
He will be the chief architect of a multi-discipline university cluster being planned by Dr Ranjan Pai of Manipal Education & Medical Group (MEMG).
The chain plans to have five universities — mostly under the brand name Manipal International University — offering degree courses in engineering, management, social sciences, industrial design, architecture, creative graphics etc. Each of these universities will be built to have 25,000 students on campus by the tenth year of operation.
Mohandas Pai said, "We are looking at imparting holistic education, discourage rote learning. The pedagogy will be based on case studies, with the objective to build creative minds and instil problem-solving abilities.''
Pai, who had spent 17 years with Infosys, had earlier said he would spend 30% of his time for quality higher education, 30% in the corporate world and another 30% with his wife and two sons.
