The Supreme Court will on Tuesday Jayalalitha government's appeal challenging a Madras high court order directing the state to continue with implementation of the Tamil Nadu Uniform System of School Education Act.
The apex court agreed to take up the matter on priority after senior counsel PP Rao and State additonal advocate general Guru Krishna Kumar submitted the matter needs urgent hearing as it involves academic activities of thousands of children.
The Act introduced in 2010-2011 by the previous DMK government had introduced a common curriculum for school children till Class X.
Prior to introduction of the Act, the state had different curriculum of education like matriculation, state school of Secondary Education, CBSE and Anglo-Indian.
But by the 2010 Act, a common curriculum was introduced. However, in June first week, the AIADMK government, on being voted back to power, brought an amendment by introducing Section 3 under which it sought to withold implementation of the Act and revert back to the earlier curriculum.
