Assam Government will introduce Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) for recruitment of teachers at all levels in schools from this year and rules for Right to
Education will be enacted by next month.
Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters here today that education department would introduce a slew of measures to ensure that the Right to Education became a reality in the state.
"At the outset, we have decided to frame the rules to ensure that the Right to Education, a fundamental right under the constitution can be implemented without any hitch and this was expected to be completed by July," he said.
During the past few years it had been noticed that the focus of the education department has shifted from the welfare of students to teachers' appointment and the time had come to change the prevailing situation, Sarma said.
"The Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) has been made mandatory for all teachers in the state, both in government and private schools to ensure quality education," he said.
The state government would appoint 31,000 teachers during the next few years and the TET would be held in the first week of October this year for selection of teachers in the two categories of Lower and Middle schools with the
results being announced within seven days following which the appointment process would begin, the minister said.
The state government would also set up a State Education Authority for academic monitoring to ensure quality control and also to check and regulate malpractices in private schools, Sarma added.
