Medical aspirants from the city do not need to go outside to pursue studies any more, as the Indian Medical Council has approved MBBS course in Punjab Institute of Medical science from current academic session itself.
The total intake of students for the course is 150, an official release from the PIMS said.
According to the release, admission for the 50 per cent of seats would be conducted by the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences in Faridkot, in keeping with the guidelines of the state government,
While the rest of the seats will be under management quota of which 15 per cent are reserved for NRIs, it said.
The foundation stone of the PIMS was laid by former Chief Minister Beant Singh in 1994.
