A PIL was filed in the Madras High Court challenging the Constitutional validity of a bill passed by the Tamil Nadu Assembly deferring implementation of the uniform school education (USE) system introduced by previous DMK regime.
Petitioner P B Prince Gajendra Babu, General Secretary of State Platform for Common School System, contended that the bill was "a colorable legislation" aimed at actually repelling the principal act.
The reason offered in the statement of objects and reasons particularly that the 'lack' of quality of the textbooks was not supported by any material records, he submitted.
The petitioner said the state had ignored the stress and trauma factor that would influence the child due to the confusion and instability on what he should read.
The matter is likely to come up for hearing tomorrow along with petitions challenging the state cabinet's decision not to implement the USE scheme in the current academic year.
