Vishwakarma B-school to offer global certification in ERP, ties up with SAP

German ERP software major SAP has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Vishwakarma Global School of Business (VGSB) here to set up an authorised training and international certification centre in enterprise resource planning (ERP).

"The ERP certificate course will be offered as an elective component under our AICTE-approved post-graduate diploma in management (PGDM) programme," said Bharat Agarwal, managing trustee, B R Agarwal Charitable Trust (BRACT), which runs the Vishwakarma Institutes (VI), on Monday. The VGSB is a constituent institute of the VI, which also runs the Vishwakarma Institute of Technology.

The MoU comes as part of SAP's University Academy Alliances global programme and was signed on June 3 by BRACT chairman Ramlal Agarwal; SAP India's chief finance officer Samir Kashyap on behalf of SAP, Germany; and Kishore Sardesai, managing director, Delphi Computech, which is SAP's education partner in India.

A key feature of the alliances programme is that it allows the partner institute to offer SAP training at a highly concessional rate compared to SAP's authorised centres operating outside the programme. "Students opting for SAP ERP as part of the PGDM will have to pay a fees of Rs 90,000 for the certificate course as against Rs 2.25 lakh they have to pay at SAP centres outside the alliances programme," said Agarwal.

The course, involving basic and advanced elements, will be offered to VI's engineering as well as PGDM courses and will also be open to students from outside VI. "The certificate course will go simultaneously with the main academic activity, he said. "The basic element will be taught as an in built component for the first of the two-year PGDM programme. Students won't have to pay any fees for the basic element. In the second year though, they will have to opt for the advanced element for which the fees is Rs 90,000 per seat," said Agarwal.

According to VI vice-president S B Mantri, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has sanctioned a student intake of 120 seats for the VGSB's PGDM programme.

Sardesai, while speaking on behalf of SAP, said, "Constant upgradation of SAP's ERP solutions and it widening scope of application, from major multinationals and corporates to even small and medium enterprises, has fuelled an unprecedented demand for ERP consultants across a range of 25-odd industries."

Sardesai said, "The growth has spurred SAP to go for strategic initiatives like the university academy alliances programme to promote ERP learning as a career avenue. Our focus for now is on entering into tie ups with big academic institutions, which meet SAP's requirements vis-Ã -vis infrastructure for e-learning technology, etc."

Delphi's executive director and CEO Pradeep Saggam said, "The scope for ERP consultants is immense considering that SAP accounts for a 65% of the global ERP market with over 1.10 lakh customers worldwide. In India, the ERP applications have grown steadily with over 6,000 companies across the spectrum of the industry sector having adopted the software."What is ERP?
