Pvt colleges threaten to hold separate entrance exam for MBBS

A section of self-financing medical colleges in Kerala June 4th appeared headed on a collision course with the UDF Government as they announced a separate entrance examination for the MBBS seats.

The government reacted to the development holding that it still stuck to the policy of 50:50 seat matrix in open merit and management quota but was prepared to hold discussions with the college managements.

Last year, as part of an agreement with the government, 11 colleges under the assoication had selected half the candidates through the state entrance test.

After a meeting of the Kerala Self-financing Medical Colleges Managements Association today, its secretary Sajan Prasad said this year they would conduct a separate entrance examination, alleging that the government had not come forward for discussions on admission and fee structure.

He also the managements proposed to fix an annual fee of Rs 3.5 lakh for each seat except those coming under NRI quota.

Health Minister Adoor Prakash said the Government's policy is pision of seats on 50:50 ratio. He, however, talks would be held with the managements to settle the issue.
