Samsung initiates scholarships to IIM-A students

Samsung India signed an MOU with country's top B-school Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad to roll out a scholarship program for management students.

 

As per the 'Samsung Scholarship program', five meritorious students from the first year batch of the management course will be selected to avail the scholarship which will take care of around 60 per cent of their tuition fees in the second year of their course at the institute.

 

The MOU was signed between CEO and President, Samsung South-West Asia J S Shin and Director IIM-A Samir Barua.

 

"We have got many tie-ups with the service sector companies (for scholarship), but this is the first time that a company from manufacturing company and I hope it will be trend setter," Barua told reporters after signing the MoU with Samsung.


"Human capital is the backbone for the growth and development of any economy or industry across the world.  Our Scholarship Program here at the IIM-A, seeks to grow beyond providing financial support to the students to encompass a healthy industry-academia partnership and engagement," Shin said.


"As part of this program, we would like to give these students a healthy exposure to our company and our industry, so that we can contribute to the holistic development of these students", Shin added.


The expert jury comprising of IIMA faculty and company leadership will choose the candidates who will be awarded the Scholarships.


Shin said, "We plan to make India a research hub for the company. We have 5,000 engineers here and plan to add 1,000 more for research in this year. This will be second such centre after Korea for the company".
