Jittery SSC students cancel holiday plans

Rumours that the class X results may be declared early has prompted families of students to cut short their vacations and head back to the city. Several students said that they cancelled their trips for fear that they would miss the date for online admissions. However, authorities from the state board have said that the results would be out only around June 15.

Urvi Smarth, a student of Mary Immaculate Girls High School in Borivli, said, “There were strong rumours that the SSC result would be declared online in the first week of June. We had planned to go to Goa for ten days and return on June 7, but now we will be back in Mumbai by June 4.” Radhika Nair, a student from a Dadar school, was headed to Kerala for a wedding but has now cancelled her trip. If the results are out early, we will have to ensure that we fill the online forms at once, Nair said. Even coaching class owners are uncertain about the dates. Jagdish Walawalkar, president of the Maharashtra coaching class owners association, said, “The state board should announce the dates as soon as possible. Even we heard rumours that the result would be out around June 10. Students who are not in the city will find it difficult to advance their bookings and come back.”

Chairman of the Maharashtra state board of secondary and higher secondary education, Ujwala Deve Patil, said, “We are trying our best to announce the results around June 15.” She added that the results would not be announced in the first week of June for certain.
