In a huge relief to students and their parents, it is reliably learnt that the school education department has asked St Mary’s School (SSC) to approach the education director of the SSC board in Pune. Last week, the department had decided to derecognise the school. On Monday, school education minister Rajendra Darda called a meeting to take stock of the situation. “The management should appeal to the SSC board in Pune to get reprieve from the school education official’s order to derecognise the school for its alleged involvement in irregularities,” a senior education department official told TOI on the condition of anonymity.
Darda refused to reveal the details of the meeting. But the minister reiterated his stand on the issue. “Why should parents and their children suffer for the misdeeds of the management,” he asked. “No parent or child will have to suffer in this case. At any cost, interests of the students will be protected. If the need arises, the state will appoint an administrator for smooth functioning of the school as it used to earlier.”
Meanwhile, representatives of the school management met Darda at his residence, Nandanvan at Malabar Hill, on Monday evening. Education department officials said that in a day or two, the school management will appeal before the director of education. The state minorities minister Arif Naseem Khan has instructed his department to examine the issue.
