With a view to impart training to the youths, the union government has approved 7 Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) and 14 Skill Development Centres (SDC) in the Naxal-infested districts in Chhattisgarh for the year 2010-11.
These training institutes will come up in Rajnandgaon, Bastar, Kanker, Dantewada, Bijapur, Narayanpur and Sarguja districts, sources said. Officials said that the total cost of raising infrastructure for these centres stands at Rs 30.98 crore, in which, the Centre will contribute 75 per cent, while the rest of the amount will come from the state. The ITIs will be set up at Ambagarh Chowkie in Rajnandgaon, Bakawand in Bastar, Naraharur in Kanker, Konta in Dantewada, Bhairamgarh in Bijapur, district place of Narayanpur and Sitapur in Sarguja, they said.
According to officials, after receiving a letter from the Union Labour and Employment Ministry to this effect, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh directed the concerned officials to chalk out a plan and make a proposal. The proposal was then sent to the Centre, which gave a green signal to it within a month. The total cost of raising each ITI, along with a hostel facility, would run over Rs 3.75 crore. Raising an SDC would cost Rs 35 lakh, sources said.
