Different schools from the city came together for the Andrew Yule Group’s annual event, the Yule Elocution Contest, with over 170 participants this year. Kallol Datta, chairman and managing director, Andrew Yule & Co. Ltd said, “This year, the theme for the finals was ‘Tagore’s Relevance in the Young Minds of the 21st Century’. We felt this was appropriate given that this year is the great poet’s 150th birth anniversary.” The finals, held on May 10, had six candidates each for the Hindi and English categories, and seven for the Bengali category.
Antara Chandana from Lakshmipat Singhania Academy bagged the first prize in the Hindi category. Aniruddha Roy from Hare School and Sparsh Agarwal from Don Bosco School, Park Circus came first in the Bengali and English category respectively. Indrajit Sengupta, director-personnel, Andrew Yule & Co Ltd said, “The winner of each language group was given a trophy each for their school as also for the individual, along with gift vouchers worth Rs 12,000. The runner-up of each language group was given a trophy along with gift vouchers worth Rs 8,000. All other finalists were given gift vouchers worth Rs 4,000 each.”
