Two Indian American students have won a prestigious State Department award for creating a website for cultural diplomacy with the Muslim world.
Aparajit Sriram and Avanti Dabholkar, both being 12th grade student of Plainsboro High School North in Plainsboro, New Jersey, have been selected for the '2011 Doors to Diplomacy Award', the State Department said.
The 'Doors to Diplomacy Award' recognises the web projects that best teach young people about the importance of international affairs and diplomacy, the State Department said, adding that the website http://www.wix.com/adas920/cdiplomacy explores the role that culture plays in international diplomacy.
According to the website, Aparaajit was born in Bahrain, lived parts of his childhood in Singapore and India, and then settled in the US. Leading the research effort, he wrote many of the contents of the website.
On the other hand, Avanti, an aspiring architect, applied her skills in design and organisation to pull together this educational website.
