An innocuous internet search by a student has blown the cover of plagiarised and possibly leaked questions papers of an entrance test held for government medical colleges in Chhattisgarh.
Kritika, a class 12 student appearing for the pre-medical test, returned home after a difficult zoology paper on Wednesday. “I was distressed and decided to see if any of the answers could be found online,” she said. As she entered one of the questions into a search engine, she was stunned to see the entire paper pop up online, question by question, word for word.
Her shock increased when she saw the paper available online was the question paper in Uttar Pradesh’s state public service commission exams. “That explained why the questions were so tough. PSC exams are for graduates, and we are class 12 students,” she said. After the students raised an alarm, the news broke on a local TV channel. The Chhattisgarh Professional Examination Board, the government body that holds medical and engineering exams, cancelled Wednesday’s entrance test, rescheduling a fresh test in June.
“But how can a government board lift questions from websites? We do not set the paper. We outsource it to a printing agency, which does everything,” said B P Tripathi, the board chief.
