Some children are already preparing for their board examinations. Don't be surprised! But the board examinations are almost a year away.

Exciting plans

Holidays used to mean playing with friends, going to your grandma's place or got to the beach, climb trees. ? Most of the time was spent in outdoor activities. Examinations meant nothing during vacations.

Today, children say that they are planning to spend “considerable time” studying. Why? “I am enjoying my holidays as much as I can, but setting aside a portion of my time to tackle the school syllabus. This summer, I am trying to make sure all the new concepts we will be learning are at least slightly familiar before I get back in June, and I will make an attempt to read through all my textbooks, so that the lessons will be a little clearer by the time we are taught them at school,” said Rohan Setlur.

Hemaa Ramesh does not believe in last minute preparations. “My preparations for the Std X board examinations started some time when I was in Std IX. I have decided to excel in the examinations and hence, I have created a plan of work and began with a modest two hours of work every day. I will increase this time gradually and by the time school reopens , I wish to work close to four hours a day. I have set a timetable and will stick to it,” she says.

Other ideas

Is it just then “all work and no play” for these children? No, they say. “I need to make sure I have a great summer vacation, and I'm waiting to meet up with all my friends, catch up on my hobbies, spend time with my family, learn something new, and basically have a great time! That's what summer's all about, isn't it? So for me, this summer's going to be one filled with fun, enthusiasm, interest and dedication.

However, exam preparation now will definitely help combat last minute tension and stress later on,” says Rohan.
