Parents of children studying at Dr S Radhakrishnan Vidyalaya school in Malad (West) protested outside the school after the management increased the fees. The parents were demanding that the school withdraw the hike. However, the school authorities refused to do so, and called in the police. No complaint has been registered.
Senior inspector of Malad police station, Avinash Jadhav, said, “The dispute is between the school management and the parents on the issue of fee hike. Both sides are ready to hold a meeting to sort things out. We have no role in it and our only concern is to maintain the law and order situation.”
The parents alleged that the school had hiked the fee last year, saying that they were trying to get approval for ICSE board. The school failed to get approval and informed the parents. “But they didn’t tell us what they would do with the hiked fees. Once again, the school hikes the fees and is not ready to tell us the reason. We will approach the court for help if the school fails to provide a valid reason,” said Namitabh Kothari, father of a student.
The school had informed the parents of its decision to hike fees on April 29, after which the parents got together to protest the move.
On Saturday, around 200 parents gathered at the school to discuss the issue with the management, but the authorities refused to meet them. The parents spent four hours there, after which the police was called in.
