43 out of the 60 third-year architecture students from Bharti Vidyapeeth’s College of Architecture, Navi Mumbai, might fail their exams as the college did not allow them to appear for their vivas.
The reason? The students reached half an hour after the exam began. The students approached Mumbai University on Monday to bail them out.
A parent said, “There are only 60 students in the third year of architecture in the college. How is it possible that 43 of the 60 would come late for their vivas? The students were not even very late for their vivas.” A student, who was at the Fort campus on Monday to submit an apology letter to the officials, said, “We are still clueless why the college did not allow us. The students were just completing their worksheets. Most of us were in campus since morning.”
The parents said that even if the students were allowed to appear for a supplementary paper next year to clear the subject, it would look bad on their marksheets that they had failed the subject. “For a month, the college authorities have been making us run around to meet officials. Now they claim that their people have gone on vacation. We now want the university to intervene in the matter,” said one parent.
MS Kurhade, the in-charge registrar of the university, said they would look into the matter. Vishwajit Kadam, the trustee of the college, refused to comment.
