Samacheer Kalvi class VIII, IX books to be online

Textbooks for classes VIII and IX as per the revised syllabus of the State government's Samacheer Kalvi initiative, will be made available online within a day or two.

Sources in the School Education Department said the content was ready and would be uploaded in the next couple of days on www.textbooksonline.tn.nic.in and http://pallikalvi.in. The class X textbooks were made available online recently.

“The idea is to make them accessible before the schools reopen. Parents, teachers and students may want to have an idea of the new syllabus and what is to be taught and learnt in the coming year,” said an official.

Textbooks for the remaining primary and middle classes will be uploaded after the textbooks for classes VIII and IX are up. All the textbooks would be available for free download, the official added.
Federation to purchase text books

The Federation of Matriculation Schools' Associations – Tamilnadu will follow Samacheer Kalvi from the coming academic year and buy the books prescribed by the government.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, members of the Federation said the quality of the Samacheer Kalvi textbooks would have to be upgraded as per the matriculation standard.

K. Rajasekaran, State president of the Federation, said all the member schools would accept the Samacheer Kalvi textbooks but the names of the approved publishers should be announced at the earliest by the Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation.

“To improve the classroom interaction, we have also decided to follow the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) pattern, where project works, assignments and regular tests would be part of the evaluation process,” said N. Vijayan, general secretary of the Federation.

He said that the Federation has appealed to the chairperson of the Private Schools Fee Determination Committee Justice K. Raviraja Pandian to release the revised fee structure of schools before May 10.

“We also want the committee to consider the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations and ESI to be paid to teachers and the RTE implementation while determining the fee for every school, he added.
