Bhubaneswar: The Orissa government has identified 575 acres of land in tribal-dominated Koraput district for setting up of a central university, an official said today.
The land has been identified near the Koraput railway station, some 499 km from here, a senior official of the state higher education department told media.
A five-member committee of the ministry of human resources development will visit the site on June 14 to make a final decision, the official said.
He added that it would take at least four to five years to complete the infrastructure after the land is transferred to the university.
"The central government has already appointed Surabhi Banerjee as the first vice chancellor of the Koraput central university. We are making all efforts to start courses in the current academic session using infrastructure available nearby," the official said.
The varsity, the first central university in the state, would first start off with a school of languages and school of social sciences.
