Facing complaints of denial of admission to students, the MCD said strict action will be taken against the principal of any civic body school if he takes such a step and that he could even be jailed.
Mahinder Nagpal, Chairman of MCD Education Committee, said under the Right to Education Act, no child can be denied admission in a school.
"It is also mandatory to admit disabled and poor children. The admission process will continue till August 31 for the convenience of parents and students. This year, summer vacation will commence from May 10 in MCD schools," he said.
He said some complaints were received from parents about denial of admission to their wards. The department took the matter seriously and immediately took action against the erring principals.
"Strict action will be taken against the principal of the school, if he denies admission to any student and he could even be jailed for the action," Nagpal said.
