Educational qualification
Minimum educational qualification for a Student Pilot's Licence and Private Pilot's Licence (PPL) should be class 10 of a recognised Board or its equivalent, and for Commercial Pilot's Licence (CPL), it should be Plus Two with physics and mathematics.
Age limit
The minimum age to join a pilot training course is 16 years and minimum age for issuance of Private Pilot's Licence and Commercial Pilot's Licence is 18 years.
What do you have to accomplish to get a PPL?
*Twenty hours of solo (independently without an instructor in the aircraft) flying, including five hours of cross-country flying. Of this, 10 hours of solo flying should have been completed within a period of 12 months immediately preceding the date of application for the licence.
*A pass in written examination in composite paper (Air Regulation, Air Navigation and Aviation Meteorology) and Technical (General and Specific).
*It takes about 20 to 25 hours of flying before a trainee is found safe to fly solo. Trainee is generally required to fly about 50 hours before he qualifies for PPL. This licence entitles holder to fly the aircraft but not for hire and reward.
What are the tasks to be done to get a CPL?
*200 hours of flying with 100 hours of solo flying. In addition, the trainee is required to pass five written examinations – air regulations, air navigation, aviation meteorology, technical and technical special.
*An average trainee can accomplish this task in a period of 18 months.
*The duration of the course depends upon many factors such as capability of the candidates to cope with the flying techniques, weather conditions, and clearing of the examination conducted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

Payment for 100 hours of flying (50 per cent of requirement): Rs. 6,50,000
Ground fee: Rs. 75,000
Refundable deposit: Rs. 1,00,000
Flying fee payable after completion of 100 hours (for remaining 100 hours): Rs. 6,50,000
Total: Rs. 15,05,000
