SC/ST schools in Bihar to get computers

The Bihar government has decided to install computers and arrange audio-visual study materials for teaching at 51 residential schools for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.
 
Out of the 81 residential schools, 51 where students of standard I to standard X were taught, would have the Computer aided Learning (CAL) system, SC/ST Welfare Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said after launching the system here.
 
The software for the new study and teaching methods had been developed by IIT, Mumbai, he said.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister S K Modi said earlier the budget for the SC/ST welfare department was as low as Rs 40 crore but now the state government has increased it to Rs 361 crore during 2010-11.
 
Under the plan size of Rs 24,000 crore fixed in Bihar for 2011-12, Modi said the state government had allocated Rs 4,200 crore for the welfare schemes for the SC and ST people.
