The Jammu and Kashmir government is considering to roll out "special incentives" for teachers teaching in far-flung areas of the state.

"The Government is seriously considering sanctioning special incentives for teachers posted in far-off areas", Minister for School Education, Peerzada Mohammad said while addressing a function of 10+2 teachers in the state.

Giving in to a long-standing demand, the minister said that the government has sanctioned an amount of nine crore each for construction of Teachers' Bhawan at Jammu and Srinagar.

Appreciating the role played by teachers during the unrest in valley last year, Peerzada Mohammad said that despite many odds they exhibited exemplary courage to keep the institutions functional.

The minister also added that the Government is contemplating to rename the schools as Intermediate Colleges.

The present census showed 13 per cent increase in the literacy rate of the state, said Minister for Higher Education A G Malik, adding that it is because of the endeavour of the teaching community that the state has witnessed such a quantum increase in literacy levels.
