Stunned by the notice sent by Prime Academy (ISCE) School in Andheri seeking behaviour certificates sworn before a magistrate's court from its class ninth and tenth students, some parents approached the Forum for Fairness in Education.
“Why is the school asking for a behaviour certificate from students who have studied there for 13 years? What is it trying to prove by making such absurd demands?” said Jayant Jain, president of the forum.
Director Chaula Joshi said, “Students in higher classes tend to become more mischievous and are out of control. We can’t even punish them as the parents don’t co-operate with us.” She added that the rules and regulations were mentioned in the school calendar but nobody bothers to follow them. “The older students behave like rowdies in school and take rules for granted. They don’t cut their hair or comb it neatly, neither are their shirts tucked in. They don’t even take warnings seriously. Besides, parents always support their kids. Such students leave a bad impression on the younger kids in the school,” said Joshi. The forum is now planning to take up the issue with education officials.
