Research institute for endangered species to come up in Jaipur

Rajasthan government with the help of World Bank is planning to set up an international training and research institute here to carry out research on  endangered animal species, a minister said.
The officials of state government and representative of World Bank held formal discussions in this regard here.
   
"The centre would be set up with the assistance of the central government, World Bank near Shahpura area here and facilities for an advanced laboratory, equipment would be provided to conduct research on Godawan (Great Indian Bustard), wild cat, crocodile, tiger and other endangered species of semi-arid zone," the state environment minister Ramlal Jaat said.
   
"Rajasthan is an ideal state from biodiversity point of view. Several species are found in semi-arid areas here only. Since several species of arid and semi-arid zones
are vanishing, so their conservation has become very important," he said.
   
"An understanding was made today in the meeting and efforts would be made to set up the institution soon. Research would be conducted on wildlife related issues of India, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh," Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, R.N. Mehrotra said.
