Coimbatore school takes up green initiative

For the young ones at the K’sirs International School the hot sun above did not really matter. Their concentration was downwards. They were keen on planting saplings. The school says the students drew comfort from the canopy the trees would provide in the future.

The school partnered with Siruthuli and Pasum Pulari, both environmental organisations, to launch a tree planting drive. Actor Sivakumar and Vanitha Mohan, managing trustee, Siruthuli, launched the campaign. The school promised to maintain 1,000 saplings in and around its campus.

Mr. Sivakumar also launched the school’s “Vithai Virutcham Aathal” (seed to tree) programme, wherein the school will be responsible of supplying saplings to Siruthuli.

Three children got a tree each to take care. They were given the “green thumbs” badge. The students took a pledge to nurture the trees.

R. Raveendran, vice president, Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore, launched the “Wealth out of Waste” project. He distributed bags to children to collect non-biodegradable waste. It will be handed over to ITC for recycling.

The school says it is a small initiative on its part to protect Mother Earth and hand it over to the future generations just as we inherited it.
