Admission scam: Govt sacks its MSU Senate member

The Gujarat Government removed its nominee Kamlesh Mehta from the membership of the Senate of the Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) following his arrest in connection with an admission scam in the faculty of Technology and Engineering, official sources said.
Mehta was Superintendent in the Faculty and has already been suspended. He is under police custody.
 
About 14 students were alleged to had been given admissions into the Faculty on the basis of fake documents.
Police had arrested six persons, including Mehta, in connections with the scam, which came to light a few weeks ago.
 
The Government had nominated Mehta on the Senate, a key decision-making body of the reputed university, twice in the past eight years.
