About 10 students of Gokhale Memorial Girls’ College suffer due to the college’s indecision about letting them take their Part I exams. College authorities said these 10, and several others have been barred from sitting for the first year examination owing to inadequate attendance but these girls have a different story to tell. “My daughter did not get an honours during provisional admission as she didn’t have adequate marks and was told she didn’t need to attend classes at that time. Now that she has secured the necessary marks, she has been told she doesn’t have enough attendance to sit for the examination,” said the mother of one of the students.
The students and their guardians have been running from pillar to post to find a way but as of now there seems to be no respite for them. “The college teacher-in-charge asked us to write to the CU and the university official wants a letter from the college authorities. We are in a catch 22 situation. All we want is the teacher-in-charge to forward our letter to the controller of examinations, CU,” said another guardian, choosing to be anonymous.
Debashish Biswas, controller of examinations, CU, said, “We have not received any intimation or complaint from the college. Only if we get one, we can look into the matter.”
College authorities, when contacted, refused to comment on the issue.
