A job fair was organized by the Indian Institute of Job Training (IIJT) for the students of Gobardanga Hindu College recently. Attended by 60 students shortlisted by the college, the objective of this drive was to help students assess themselves for job readiness.
Over 33 offers were made by the 2 participating companies and an average salary of Rs1.5 lakh per annum was offered.
Basu, one of the teachers of the college said, “ We never thought there were opportunities for students of general UG College. A platform like this where they can assess themselves, discuss various career options and connect with the potential employers is of immense help.”
According to Gautam Karmakar, zonal Manager, IIJT Education, West Bengal and North East, “Though there are large number of students passing out of numerous degree colleges, most of them lack the skills which will help them start their career or find any takers in the job market. We at IIJT-TeamLease are reaching out to the colleges and helping them in bridging this gap so that by the time the students pass out, they not only have degrees with them but also the right skills.”
