CET for MBBS aspirants not applicable in J&K: PDP

Common Entrance Test (CET) for MBBS aspirants at the national level should not be applicable to students in Jammu and Kashmir, Opposition PDP said in the state Assembly.

Raising the issue in the state Assembly, PDP chief and Legislature Party Leader Mehbooba Mufti demanded that CET for MBBS at national level should not be applicable in the state in view of the fact that NCERT syllabus is prescribed in the state while CBSE syllabus is operational in the rest of the country.

She said this will jeopardize the interests of those students of the state who aspire for MBBS and minimize their chances of clearing the CET.

Speaking on behalf of the state government, Minister for Finance Abdul Rahim Rather said, "Appropriate measures would be taken to safeguard the interests of state's youth vis-a-vis entrance examination in MBBS."

He said the government will not allow the students to suffer on this account and made it clear that Common Entrance Test (CET) for MBBS aspirants in the country may not necessarily be applicable to the state.
