Brush up your IT skills

In an attempt to promote IT knowledge amongst students, St Mary’s High school, Andheri hosted an inter school IT contest, ‘In schools Techno Fest 2011.’ Times NIE was the print partner for the same. More than 40 schools and 600 teachers and students participated in the fest.

The event was spread across three days with various competitions and contests like IT Quiz, digital painting, logo designing and PowerPoint projects made by students and teachers of various schools. The event was inaugurated by school chairman Rev Bishop Mar Thomas Elavanal and Shailesh Phanse, corporator. The semi final round of junior and senior IT Quiz and digital paint competitions were held on the first day. Day two saw a hint of glamour with the ‘Master and Miss IT Champ’ fashion show.
  
The grand finale on day three had noted choreographer Terence Lewis as the special guest. “IT is the present as well as the future of our world and it is good to see schools hosting such fests,” he said. “The event showcased the software and IT talent and skills of students from class II - IX,” explained Sr Lily, school principal.
  
Msgr Jacob Porathor, vicar general of Kalyan Dioceses; Thanksy Thekkekara, additional chief secretary Mantralaya, Maharashtra; Tejashree Ghag, deputy education officer; Madalsa Sharma, actor; Suchishmita Das, singer; Shuhani Tak, child artist; Ajinkya Patil, MCP; Ravi Vaz, Wipro; Mickey D’cruz, HDIL project head; Anil Kumar Singh, HDIL project head and Fr Paul Olickal, school director were also present at the event.
  
The students of MSG and SGKM’s Universal school bagged the winning title in the junior quiz competition while St Mary’s High school and Sacred Heart school got a close second and third position. The senior category saw Sacred Heart school emerge as the winner while St Thomas school and St Dominic school bagged the runners up positions.
