Kurukshetra to have two vocational institutes on US pattern

Kurukshetra will have two vocational institutes to run the "employable skill courses" like automobile and building management on the pattern of community colleges of USA.

Industrial Training Institute, Umari (Kurukshetra)and Guru Gobind Singh Polytechnic Institute, Cheeka (Kaithal) have been identified for this purpose.
These vocational institutes will have collaboration with the Montegomery Community College, Maryland in the US, to chalk out basic academic and training infrastructure, initially in the fields of automobile and building management, Congress MP from Kurukshetra, Navin Jindal and DeRionne Pollard, President of Montgomery Community College said while addressing a joint conference here today.

A 21 member delegation of the US is on a two-day visit toKurukshetra Lok Sabha constituency to find out feasibilities for collaboration to run such need-based and job-oriented courses for the rural youths, enabling them to join higher technical courses after getting credit-based grades in these institutions.

Jindal said that already Jindal Educational Initiatives has partnered with Montgomery College, Maryland, USA and the United States India Education Foundation (USIEF) to lead an initiative to build critical capacity in the community college for technical education sector in India through faculty exchange programmes and development of curricula.

Seven teachers from these two institutes of Kurukshetra would be sent to Montgomery College for training to run the first two courses selected so far, he said.

Pollard said that the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the United States Department of State has awarded Montgomery College a USD 195,000 grant to launch these initiatives in a phased manner.

Montgomery College has partnered with the US India Education Foundation (USIEF) Fulbright Commission on the grant implementation and with O P Jindal Institute of Technology and Skills, already operational in Raipur (Chhatisgarh) on other essential operations.

She said as part of the first phase, a national symposium on strengthening workforce development in India for the global economy was organized on March 14-15 there.
